I haven't made any new fractals in a long time. My part-time job, other art interests and my ongoing historical research into an old murder case from 1885 take up most of my time at the moment. Apophysis, the software that has enabled me to create all my wonderful worlds is quite different from the less sophisticated version that orginally came out. But when I look back at my work, some of my best pieces actually came from those first earlier versions.

It's Hot!

0 min read
Perth, Western Australia. Hot one day, hot the next! Yes that's right. We are in the middle of summer and a heatwave. Yesterday was 43ºC and today it is the same. So I am hibernating in my air-conditioned house, for which I am very grateful. You wouldn't know it is hot outside. I popped out for 15 minutes to water some plants I put in our new garden and it felt like I was in an oven. The sky was crystal blue and it was a very dry heat. Times like this I think of my my g. grandmothers and their mothers in all their corseted, high necked Victorian clothing and wonder how they coped in the early Australian days. No cooling, no modern applia

Moving House

0 min read
It's been a very busy and eventful year culminating in our family moving house in less than two weeks. After 16 happy years in our current abode we are moving to a larger home in a different suburb. It was a big decision but we really were bursting out of our 3 x 1 home. Even though I become quite attached to places I won't feel too sad as our new house is lovely and in a very nice location. So much packing up to do and things to attend to but we are all excited by the move. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to create any more fractals. Spare time is usually spent on my website The Roebourne Bank Murders and research into that matter. I r

Hi

I just wanted to bring to your attention (in case you missed the Group blog) that we are holding a GREAT new contest ~ Self Portrait. See all the details here [link]

I would very much love to see an entry from you!! :eager:
While looking through your gallery, I couldn't help but have my mouth hanging open. The fractals it contains are amazing and I found that I could not leave comments on those I faved. Why? I was truly at a loss for words with each one. Your work is both mesmerising and nothing short of awe-inspiring.

I believe the website you have on your DA page had a tutorial at some time. It was that tutorial which inspired me to take up fractals; in the past I had experimented with them, but never really achieved much. Even to this day I haven't really achieved much, I will admit, but to see what is possible is certainly motivating.

It may sound cheesy and cliche, but I enjoyed going through your gallery and it was an honour. Thank you for sharing your work and I hope you will continue sharing in the time to come.
Hi Fishguts (love the name :-) )

All your kind words have really made my night. Thanks so much for letting me know how much you enjoyed my fractals.

My basic tutorial was written back in 2003. At that time there were hardly any tutorials on Apophysis and that's what prompted me to write a "hold your hand" type explanation. It was on my website www.arcanefractals.com and was very popular. Most unfortunately I recently had a major problem with the hosting of my site after another company took over. I closed the account down thinking I would just upload all my files that included my galleries and tutorials to my new host. That's when I discovered the files were not on my computer. Somehow, two months previously when I got my new computer they never transfered over and my offsite backup didn't have the files either. Unbelievable!!! Anyway I will get the site back on line with the tutorial as soon as possible. Being the eternal optimist I'm telling myself it needed an update anyway. Thank goodness for the waybackmachine.org

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to write your message. It was greatly appreciated.

Thank you so very much for supporting my writings and poetry. It is much appreciated and warms my heart...:iconhrtplz:
 Hi Fran! I just stopped by to check your gallery for new uploads. I miss your fractal art. I hope that you and your family are doing well.
Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for your kind enquiry. I replied to your message a while back and now see that it never appeared here. :-( Anyway, all is well but life has become quite busy and my spare time has mostly been spent researching info for my website [link] Hopefully I'll get back to my fractal art at some point in the near future. Trust all is well with you.

Fran
Hi Kathleen,

So sorry for not getting back sooner. Life has just been very busy lately. I also have my pet project that I work on in my spare time [link] It requires quite a lot of research so there is no time left for Apophysis (for now) :-(

I see your son was deployed to Iraq so I will send kind thoughts of safety his way and good thoughts to you too! [link]
